Venue

La Datcha is an out-of-the-ordinary cultural café in the centre of Lausanne. The project originated from two architects and an artistic agent. Their natural like-mindedness meant that the members of the ‘Histoires Urbaines’ association were able to put into practice a shared desire to present quality artists in an out-of-the-ordinary venue, right in the heart of the city. The space – a former warehouse located in Flon – is a reminder of the manifold activities that filled this area until just a few years ago. The huge redevelopment of this area prioritised offices and businesses, edging out the artisanal, social and cultural activities that formed the spirit and history of the Flon district. The fringe of little buildings lining the Côtes-de-Montbenon hill is somehow the memory of these activities, bringing to mind the diversity of the place. Because of their small scale, these buildings naturally open up onto the street, allowing passers-by to see people at their work.
