Richard Wagner Museum Park
Overview
Intro
Richard Wagner lived here on the shores of Lake Lucerne for six years. The museum named after him is surrounded by an extensive park right by the lake, offering unique views of the mountains. The park can be reached within a 30-minute walk from Lucerne, along a wonderful lakeside path.
Richard Wagner lived on this grand estate, now the Richard Wagner Museum in Tribschen on Lake Lucerne, with his second wife Cosima and his children from 1866 to 1872. On the ground floor of this former residence, visitors can view a collection on Richard Wagner and his time in Tribschen.
The city of Lucerne first acquired the country house and its expansive park spread over 30,000 square metres in 1931 in order to open it to the public. On the lake shore by the museum can now be found one of Lucerne’s most scenic children’s playgrounds. A number of benches invite visitors to linger and relax for a while.
