Rhine Circular Trail
Overview
Intro
The Rhine Circular Trail leads from the Alte Rheinbrücke to the new hydroelectric power plant and then back on the other side of the Rhine. Along the way, hikers can learn about the 900-year history of bridges and settlements, while enjoying the diverse fauna and flora along the Rhine.
Today, the Rhine links Rheinfelden on the Swiss side with Rheinfelden on the German side. Despite their shared name, both of these towns are very different. Rheinfelden in Switzerland received its town charter nearly nine centuries ago and can look back on an eventful history. In contrast, Rheinfelden in Germany is still a young town, established and developed in conjunction with the construction of the hydroelectric power plant.
The stretch between the Alte Rheinbrücke and the bridge by the power plant is today a popular circular hike. On this approximately 2-hour trail, walkers can discover a wide variety of nature and learn more about the local flora and fauna, various buildings and life on the border between Germany and Switzerland from fascinating information boards positioned along the route.
