Guggi
Overview
Intro
The Guggi is a distinctive lookout point offering a unique view of Zug’s Old Town with its four defence towers, the castle, the steeple of the Gothic Church of St. Oswald, the Zytturm clock tower as well as the government building by the lake.
On fine days, the view extends to the Bernese Alps, and on clear evenings you can enjoy the famous sunsets. The Guggi is not located on natural terrain, but on an artificial mound of material deposited there when a tunnel was built for the Gotthard railway line in 1894/95. The land where the Guggi is situated came into the possession of the city of Zug in 1980. It was opened up to the public with a pathway and a small lookout point with benches. Horse chestnut trees were also planted there. At the end of the 1990s, vines and roses were added and a home for wild bees was built.
