Personalised medicine
Personalised medicine considers a patient’s individual characteristics, such as their genetic sequence, in order to select therapeutic and preventative measures that are perfectly tailored to that person.
Various biological indicators can be used before the onset of a disease to determine a patient’s individual risk. This opens up various possibilities to take precautionary action and prevent the onset of a disease. A patient’s health data can also help in drawing up the right treatment plan. Drugs can be developed that are specifically tailored to a particular person. In cancer treatment, medications can already be used in a more targeted and effective way where certain genetic mutations have been identified. This can both increase the chances of successful treatment and reduce unwanted side-effects.
