Rheumatology
Inflammatory conditions mostly affect joints, bones, tendons and muscles. Internal organs, the skin or the nervous system can also be affected, however.
The commonly used term “rheumatics” covers around 400 individual conditions - all characterised by pain and limitation of movement. They are caused by problems with the immune system such as arthritis, signs of wear and tear (arthrosis), metabolic conditions (such as gout) and infections (viral or bacterial).
