The caring handyman of Giessbach. Inspiring Meeting Hotels
Intro
Located by a waterfall with 14 cascades, with a wildly romantic park and charm from a bygone age: Grandhotel Giessbach exudes its very own magic. And it's all looked after by Ueli Zurbuchen. And sometimes, he has "one of those feelings".
Grandhotel Giessbach
Elegant lounges and stucco ballrooms make meetings in this historical BelleEpoque hotel with its impressive waterfall a very special experience.
A special atmosphere.
Giessbach’s jack of all trades.
Ueli Zurbuchen is the Grandhotel Giessbach’s jack of all trades: he repairs anything that is broken, looks after the expansive nature park and waterfall, and makes sure that the hotel never loses its magic.
You prick up your ears when someone like him talks about a «special atmosphere" and «an inspiring spirit": «I believe more in my screwdriver than in something I cannot see.” But he still can’t shake the feeling he experienced the first time he set foot on Grandhotel Giessbach’s enormous 22-hectare site three years ago.
220,000 square metres of forested nature park with peaceful hiking paths: once a week, Ueli Zurbuchen walks along all the official trails and checks the spring catchment, one of his «magical spots” on the Giessbach estate where he goes to relax and recharge his batteries.
- In 1873 the Hauser family commissioned the construction of a Swiss chalet-style building.
- 8,000 shareholders. In 1984, Franz Weber and the shareholders put an end to speculation surrounding the hotel’s future and secured its long-term existence.
- 22 hectares. The Grandhotel is surrounded by a forested nature park.
- 14 cascades. Thunder 400 metres down into the depths.
The oldest funicular railway
Grandhotel Giessbach has its very own landing stage serviced by the Lake Brienz passenger ship. This is the point of departure for a very special attraction running up the hill next to the hotel – Europe’s oldest funicular railway. The two lovingly maintained red carriages pass in the middle at the world’s first passing track (the Abt Switch) invented by engineer Carl Roman Abt
Lake Brienz included
If you book your hotel room directly with Grandhotel Giessbach, you get the privilege of taking the passenger ship free of charge on Lake Brienz. And not only on your day of arrival and departure, but during your entire stay – an ideal way of going on excursions to the famous sights between Interlaken and Brienz.
